CEOs of Facebook, Google and Amazon are willing to give testimony in antitrust investigations

CEOs of Facebook, Google and Amazon are willing to give testimony in antitrust investigations – Facebook, Google and Amazon CEOs said they were willing to give testimony before Congress this summer as part of an antitrust investigation of major technology.

Representatives for Facebook and Google both sent a letter to the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee over the weekend indicating that their respective chief executives – Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai – would be willing to give testimony. But Facebook and Google condition their testimony to the testimony of top executives at other large technology companies.

The commitment, first reported by The Washington Post and confirmed by NBC News with sources in both companies, came one day after lawyers for Amazon said CEO Jeff Bezos would also be willing to testify.

Apple is the only “big four” technology company that hasn’t signaled that its chief executive, Tim Cook, will be willing to give testimony. An Apple spokesman declined to comment Tuesday afternoon.

The Antitrust Justice House subcommittee, chaired by David Cicilline, D-R.I., Has investigated four large technology companies, assessing whether their market forces pose a threat to competition and harm consumers.

The trial, if that happens, is expected to take place this summer. Whether it will happen directly or virtually, given the coronavirus pandemic, is still unclear.

Either way, public testimony about the CEO of America’s most powerful technology will represent an important moment in the regulatory battle between Washington, D.C., and Silicon Valley. This will also mark the first time that Bezos, the richest man in the world, has testified before Congress.
